HONG KONG VILLAGES

This is an Advanced Design Studio by Prof. Peter W. Ferretto, connected to the Masters in Architecture program at CUHK.

The aim of the Studio is to rethink the meaning of rural villages in Hong Kong and make a series of propositional projects that could suggest different future rather than see this rich heritage disappear and forgotten.

Shatin is an area surrounded by hills, with Shing Mun River at the centre. It has over 100 years of history, starting from several villages along the River, including Tai Wai Village, Shan Ha Wai and Kak Tin Village. Over the years, villagers from different villages formed the Shatin Nine-Alliance, to facilitate connections and co-operation among villages in Shatin.
